Pause. Reflect. Assess. How Are You Doing?

Pause. Reflect. Assess

Pause to reflect. Pause to feel. Pause to progress. Pause to think. Pause to take control. By all means pause. Your well-being and success depends on it.”– Thomas Oppong

How are you?

In terms of your goals, plans, and purpose pursuit, how are you doing?

In a fast-paced world where we are conditioned to do more to be more effective and you most likely hear if you blink, you miss; wisdom is required to know when to work and when to pause, to reflect and assess what you have done.

As with most people, the new year comes with great expectations, and there is a build-up of pressure in having audacious goals, creating vision boards, and wanting to achieve so much. The pressure is surreal.

Maybe it is time for you to pause and breathe. Breathe one more time!

Having goals, and plans are good but sometimes, we struggle to see those goals through even before we get midway into the year. The zeal we started out with has fizzled out and a lot of the times it is because we failed to develop structures to get things moving even when we don’t feel it.

If at the beginning of this year you wrote down things you want to achieve this month or this quarter, or at the end of the year or even in five years’ time, then I think it is time to revisit what you have written down.

Reflect and Assess.

During creation, at the end of each day, God looked at everything He created and saw that it was good. He made time to assess the work for had done for the day and he found it good. Even after he made man, he noticed that it was not good for man to be alone, then he made man better by creating a helpmeet for him.

“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day”– Genesis 1:31 KJV

If God, who is all-powerful, perfect, and wise assessed the works that he did, how much more we. Can an ambassador be greater than the one who sent him?

  • Are you still on track?
  • Are you still moving in the direction of your goals, dream, and vision?
  • Are your daily, weekly, or monthly goals leading you towards your bigger goal?

As you reflect…

“Reflection… looking back so the view looking forward is clearer”– Unknown

These questions below will help you assess your journey so far and how to reposition going forward.

  1. Where do I want to go?
  2. What Am I doing here?
  3. How did I get here?
  4. Am I on the right path to where I want to go?
  5. What tools do I need to get to the next step?
  6. Who would I need on the next journey with me?
  7. Do I still want to continue on this journey?

Your assessment should not be a one-time thing, do it as often as you can so you do not waste time dwelling on what isn’t working.

  1. Dear Grace, I ordered my self to stop and think of all you wrote on “pause, reflect and assess” – of my plans and this has been a great relief to the deemness of sight I have had on getting focused in my life’s journey.
That art of doing these acts, for me is working in progress.
