Year End Appraisal With The Best Attitude.

If you have ever desired success in life, you will know that your attitude is a major influence to your success; which means even your year end appraisal needs to be done with the best of your attitude.

“Whosoever desires constant success must change his conduct with the times.โ€ -Niccolo Machiavelli

What one word best describes your year 2021?

Mine would be daunting, because I took on a couple of projects and for some of them, I did afraid and right now, I am super thankful for the results. What’s yours?

It is so easy for us to go through the year without really considering critically how the year went especially if you do not document your journey through journalling. If you don’t journal or haven’t started journalling yet; please pause and think through a word that best describes your year.

Goals Vs Achievements.

Year end appraisal with the best attitude. One of the best ways to crosscheck your current results with what you initially set out to do within a period; is through appraisals.

These appraisals are not just done in corporate organizations alone; but also individually or as a team working towards achieving a goal.

An appraisal is an act of assessing someone and when. For appraisals to be done; there must be factors of comparison which are, your goals.

Appraisals should be done quarterly for easy capturing of major activities that happened within the period and making necessary adjustment for maximum productivity and achievement.

What goals did you set for the year?

Generally, there are 8 central areas of our lives (Pillars) that makes it easy for compartmentalization and they are;

  1. Physical wellness
  2. Social wellness – our horizontal relationships; relationships with other people.
  3. Emotional wellness – How we are able to communicate our feelings with others.
  4. Career wellness
  5. Financial wellness
  6. Spiritual wellness
  7. Personal development
  8. Environmental wellness

When setting goals, our goals should typically cover these areas of our lives and split across each quarter so that by the end of the year, we would have successfully touched on all the areas without any one lacking of attention.

This act makes us well rounded individuals. So during appraisal time, we compare our goals with our achievements and know areas that need to be rewarded and others that need extra attention depending on the season of life we’re currently in.

During Year end Appraisals – The best attitude.

Year end appraisal with the best attitude. Appraisal periods can be very critical especially when hard feedbacks are being given from your supervisor, colleague or whoever it is handling the appraisal process.

One thing you should learn to do is to train your mind to be able to receive hard feedbacks and use the feedback to make yourself and the work you do better. This means that you must be sure of the person giving the feedback so it doesn’t look like someone who is carelessly passing out comment.

If you truly desire exponential growth, just know that you won’t always be caressed, your work attitude and the ones outside work won’t always be romanced too.

Ensure to have someone who tells you how you have really fared and is ready to call your bullshit when you flop.

After Year end Appraisals – The best attitude.

As you make all these notes down in your journal, and you have finally seen areas you did excellently well and where you didn’t do well, regardless, here’s what you should never forget;

GRATITUDE.

Our brain is very quick to forget the amazing result our effort has produced over the months. It tells us we have not done enough and allows us to completely abandon those wins and then we begin to live in resentment on the things we have not achieved yet. The faintest pen they say, is always sharper than the sharpest memory, which is why you should document to your process, including your little wins too.

After you have matched your goals pari passu what you have achieved so far, how did you do?

There’s still about a few days to the end of the year to tick off your boxes. You may not have everything completed this year but then, you would have laid a good foundation to ride on in the new year.
